Congratulations, Matthieu Blazy! Former ready-to-wear design director, has been promoted to be Bottega Veneta’s newest Creative Director. Blazy has been working with former Bottega Veneta Creative Director, Daniel Lee, since 2020. Both designers were Céline alums under the wing of Phoebe Philo prior to their shift to Bottega Veneta. During their time in Céline, Blazy and Lee were instrumental in many designs that made Phoebe Philo’s Céline era truly remarkable. Now, they are both paving the way in the fashion scene using their own unique voices.

Many would say that Blazy and Lee have similar aesthetics. Although this could be true (since they’ve been working for more than 5 years in multiple brands), we’re still excited to see Matthieu Blazy’s unique perspective on Bottega Veneta. Since we don’t know exactly what the designer is cooking up for his debut, we can only guess based on these 5 fun facts we’re sure you didn’t know about Bottega Veneta’s newest Creative Director.

1. He’s a fan of Amanda Gorman
Blazy recently reposted a photo of poet and youth style icon, Amanda Gorman.
Maybe, she could collaborate with Bottega Veneta, like her stint with Prada earlier this year.

2. He was an intern at Balenciaga
Young Blazy was an intern at Balenciaga under the supervision of no other than Nicolas Ghesquière, Louis Vuitton’s current Creative Director. It’s a small world after all.

3. He worked under Raf Simons’ Creative Direction for Calvin Klein
Blazy was VP of design for womenswear and menswear from 2016 to 2019. This was the time when Raf Simons was appointed as Creative Director of Calvin Klein. The two remain to be close friends until now.

4. He was a mentor to Marrine Serre, LVMH Prize Winner for Young Fashion Designers in 2017
Marrine Serre’s crescent moon logo was all over the internet during the start of the pandemic. All the stars were wearing them. Who would’ve thought that Blazy had a say in that?

5. He’s an art collector of peculiar items

Blazy and Mulier showcased their personal collection of art to Document Journal. Fans were surprised to find peculiar items in their collection. Both designers explained that they collected art that had more story than monetary value. Maybe you can spot a few pieces in their flat.
