The celebrity bachelor falls in love with the industry’s girl crush. This month’s MEGA cover couple Ellen Adarna and Derek Ramsay share how there’s no “right” time to fall in love. Read an excerpt below.

“After 44 years, I finally felt it, you know? This is the one. And I popped the question, she said yes, and here we go!” Ramsay says. People’s reactions were varied when they announced their engagement last March after two months of dating. From supportive comments and wishing them happiness to bashers saying it’s a fling that will soon fizzle out. Funnily enough, the couple was on the same page with skeptics before meeting each other, neither one looking for a relationship. The hunk was afraid of hearing wedding bells, “before, the m-word, you mention it and I’m like, ‘holy shit!’ then I’m gone. It’s just with Ellen that in a short span of time, it just consumed me that this is the girl,” meanwhile the actress detests the stress that comes with weddings. “I’m the type na I really don’t want drama. Alam niya ‘yan. So, if there’s drama, I’d walk away. Like, “Bahala ka na sa buhay mo. But with him, sige. It makes it worth it,” she says candidly.
Both were enjoying a typical Sunday night on the living room of their couch during our call but it was clear from the way they lean in when listening to each other to how they would playfully ride off each other’s answers that, sometimes without warning, one’s heart can jump into the deep end; that when it’s right, it’s all just crystal clear. “It was just so much fun! We were going with the flow and we didn’t stop to think about it because we really are enjoying how compatible we are.” Ramsay says with Adarna completing his sentence, “it’s what we asked for, it’s what we prayed for, and then parang, woah, ito na ‘yun! Ta’s ganito lang kabilis–’yun na ‘yun! It’s that easy!”
ABOUT TIME
Not to add any more clichés to their love story, but they say that true love finds its way to you and that was also the case for the couple. With their houses just blocks away from one another, before they even met their friends already envisioned sparks flying for the couple. “My friends and her friends were trying to push it,” he shares. Even when stay-at-home orders lead them to bubble up together, the effortlessness of their relationship took them by surprise—but for the rest of the people who truly knew them, it was meant to be.
Today, we love to watch them troll each other endlessly on social media and as a witness, I can confirm the thousands of comments from fans on how the two have a different aura when they’re together. Ramsay is unafraid to let loose on screen, caught-off guard by the actress’ witty banter that replaces his brooding look with a constant smile, while Adarna is grounded by her fiancé, allowing herself to relax around him and give her full trust. Nonetheless, their strong personalities were still bound to clash. “It took time, a lot of patience, and understanding,” she admits but they chose to learn each other’s ways, “it’s give-and-take.”
