Here’s Where Beginners Can Train For Obstacle Course Races

Interested in obstacle sports but don’t know where to start? Here’s where you should go to train in Metro Manila

With the rise of competitions like the Spartan Race and the booming popularity of shows like the American Ninja Warrior, it makes sense that obstacle course racing is steadily becoming everyone’s favorite new sport. Obstacle course racing (OCR) is especially popular among families since children are also welcome to play and compete. And as daunting as the sport sounds, beginner adults and children are welcome to train in any of the facilities listed below. Professional athletes and coaches are also available at these facilities to train on a one-on-one or group basis.

Bridgetown Obstacle Park in Pasig City is the world’s biggest obstacle park, spanning 6,000 sqm with 25 obstacles. These 25 obstacles include the cargo net climb, tilting ladders, 8-feet wall climb, hurdles, and spear throw. Notably, this obstacle park was born from a partnership between Robinsons Land’s Bridgetowne Destination Estate and the Pilipinas Sports Obstacle Federation to help make obstacle sports more inclusive and accessible to everyone. The park is open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily.

Also made in collaboration with the Pilipinas Sports Obstacle Federation is the Galleria Obstacle Zone in Mandaluyong City. This is the first ninja obstacle facility built in a commercial mall, which is in Robinsons Galleria’s open-air veranda area. With 15 obstacles in total, the Galleria Obstacle Zone consists of the Ninja Box (with monkey bars, rings, slip wall, and hurdles), the OCR Course (with multi-rig bars, vault boxes, and rolling bars), and the Parkour Zone (with parkour vault boxes and wall obstacles). The facility is open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily.

In 2022, the Pilipinas Sports Obstacle Federation, along with Arcovia City and the Megaworld Lifestyle Malls, also opened the Arcovia Ninja Obstacles on Water, the first permanent over-water obstacle sports facility for training and competitions under the Ninja Course discipline. There are 12 ninja obstacles in a 100-meter line in this Pasig City facility, which are all designed to train endurance, balance, full-body coordination, and other skills necessary for Ninja athletes and beginners. This training facility is open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily.

Last but not least is Obstacle Central in Quezon City, the go-to for group Spartan training. While a smaller facility than some of the ones mentioned above, Obstacle Central offers Spartan-grade obstacles, as well as certified coaches to teach you the tips and tricks to OCR. Obstacle Central also has scheduled group classes for kids, and for those interested in spartan training and spartan combat. This training facility is open from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily.
