Real Beauty: Pamela Anderson Shared Her Honest Thoughts About Aging

“It’s fun getting old. It’s a relief,” she wrote in her post. “And at a certain age, we just look younger and fresher without makeup. This is me. I’m happy with who I am right now.”

There are quite a few things in beauty that are as mysterious as the industry’s perennial pursuit of eternal youth. Though it’s not wrong to occasionally delve into anti-aging products and treatments, it should not set a bad outlook on the inevitable. Let’s be real—a healthy conversation about aging matters.

Many celebrities have already taken the steps to change the narrative about aging. Despite all the pressure and criticism from the public eye, the world has witnessed personalities like Gwyneth Paltrow, Dawn Zulueta, Jamie Lee Curtis, Geneva Cruz, and Kim Cattrall air honest and inspiring statements about the reality of getting old. But the movement doesn’t stop there. In recent times, Pamela Anderson captioned a powerful message about aging.

On what aging truly means

“As I get older, I become wiser and think less and less about looking better, and more about health and wellness,” she wrote in her newsletter. “More and more often, I look in the mirror and grin and giggle with pride rather than cry. I recognize myself, and I’m happy with what I see.” Her new beauty perspective can’t be left unmentioned. In fact, she shared, “I treasure my strangeness. I like to challenge beauty, the myth—especially now, I’m free, I’ve learned. Beauty truly comes from within. It is proven time and again,” she shared. “In spite of all you might hear or take to heart, you are a beautiful creature given to the planet.”

However, it is not the first time Pamela Anderson became candid about aging. In January, the actress and model sat down with Dax Sheperd for his podcast, Armchair Expert. “I never felt like I was any kind of great beauty, ever,” she answered when asked about what has changed as she got older. “I can’t wait to see myself old. I always said I’d recognize myself when I was old in the mirror. I want to let my hair go kind of natural gray, put my little straw hat on, [and] don’t wear makeup. I mean, that’s my comfortable kind of state.”

Pamela also made a statement in her latest post, saying that getting old is both fun and a relief. She added, “And at a certain age, we just look younger and fresher without makeup. This is me. I’m happy with who I am right now. It’s a new world [and I] am very grateful for all the love.”

Our point of view

Aging, as we all know it, is an inevitable part of life. Yes, it might sound daunting, but know that beauty is not only for the young—it exists in all ages and changes. To say the least, aging is not a bad word. It’s not the enemy. So what’s next? Embrace it. No one is recommending letting go of retinoids or peptides. Enjoy beauty as it is.

However, as our views toward aging evolve for the better, it’s also given that we need to redirect our priorities. Perhaps shift the focus to taking care of the skin or create a more mindful approach to hair care. Aging is still worth celebrating, and obsessing over stopping the inevitable removes the joy from it.

Apart from that, there are also a lot of things to learn from Pamela Anderson’s insight about aging. It makes a good example of how we can cultivate a more positive discussion about it within our community. And while transforming the world’s outlook cannot be done overnight, know that it starts with us. It’s time to change the conversation about aging.
