The 2023 Miss Universe Philippines has officially come to a close, making now the perfect time to do a little rewind on all the memorable hair and makeup moments in the competition. All candidates exhibited show-stopping entries made to up the beauty ante. However, only one stood out and took home the coveted title. Case in point: Michelle Marquez Dee and her take on a classic pageant glam.

“If you know Michelle, she’s very sophisticated, chill, and classy,” Dave Quiambao exclusively revealed to MEGA. “We wanted to showcase that on the stage. We want the people to see the real Michelle.” As luck would have it, the celebrity makeup artist unveiled all the beauty details behind her coronation look and the truth of what it is like working with Miss Universe Philippines 2023.
The beauty breakdown
It’s undeniable that a rich rouge is the perfect choice for the newly-crowned queen’s look. However, the celebrity makeup artist revealed that she only wore the shade on rare occasions. “A red lipstick is not her usual go-to, but I decided to go for the color when I saw her final gown. I wanted her to look very regal and classy,” Dave Quiambao explained his vision. “It’s also a full-circle beauty moment if you’ll think about it. She won Miss World Philippines 2019 wearing [a] red lip shade, too!”
Dave Quiambao exclusively shared the cult-favorite lipstick he swatched on her lips. “I used MAC Cosmetics Ruby Woo!” And for the noteworthy details about achieving Michelle’s glam? “For the base, I used the Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation. The formula is so good that we didn’t even need to do major touch-ups throughout the night. I also used Strokes Beauty Lab brow products and a lot of hairspray to set her body makeup and make it transfer-proof.”
On working with the newly-crowned queen
“I’ve been working with Michelle since day zero,” Dave Quiambao recalled his early chapters with the reigning queen. “Honestly, working with her is both fun and challenging. She’s very particular with what she wants and how she wants things to be done, but she [gives] me her full trust to express my artistry on her looks. I’m just very happy and proud that all our hard work has finally paid off. All glory to God!”
