The name game

This group of gifted artists came together during their high school years, forging a bond that would last a lifetime. Hailing from diverse backgrounds, with roots tracing back to the lands of Mexico, the Philippines, and Palestine, these men decided to set out on an exciting artistic journey. As per the band, immersing themselves in the melodious tunes that resonated with their unique ethnic heritage during their formative years played a pivotal role in igniting their profound passion for music above all else.

Peach Tree Rascals also shared the tale that lies behind the name of their band. “It was a week before our song was [going to] come out and we were camping together and we were just throwing out names,” Tarrek reminisced. He said that as soon as the name Peach Tree Rascals was dropped, they were immediately hooked, feeling an instant connection and knowing deep down that it was the perfect choice. The band further elaborated that every single word in their name carries a deep, profound meaning that encapsulates their very essence. Peaches for their inherent sweetness, Trees for their appreciation of the great outdoors, and Rascals for their carefree spirit.

Decoding their musical philosophy

When asked about their distinctive musical style, the band discussed that their sound is a fusion of diverse genres, encompassing the likes of alternative jazz, funk, and hip-hop. These talented individuals went on to say that they have their own unique musical styles and preferences, yet they skillfully combine their individuality to produce exceptional music.

“Every idea is worth trying.”

Jorge Olazaba when asked about their band’s process when making music.

The band may have gained fame for their high-energy anthems, but to our surprise, they revealed that when it comes to introducing their sound to newcomers, they wholeheartedly recommend “Someday,” a track that exudes a mellow, more relaxed vibe. As per the group, they take immense pride in this song as it flawlessly exhibits their distinct individual prowess. On the other hand, Joseph proposed something different. “Go to YouTube, go to our profile, start with our first song, ‘Glide,’ and watch every music video we have put out,” he suggested.

During our conversation, the Peach Tree Rascals also shared their musical inspirations, which include a diverse array of legendary icons. Some of their esteemed influences include Frank Ocean, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Justin Bieber, Kendrick Lamar, and the late Michael Jackson, just to name a few. They mentioned that these artists serve as their driving force, igniting a passion within them to craft a musical mantra. According to their rock-solid philosophy, if a tune hits the sweet spot and sends shivers down their spine, then no idea should be left unexplored. They added that these musicians they look up to stir up a deep connection in their souls, relentlessly fueling their creative fire to churn out an abundance of melodious masterpieces.

Finding familiarity on Philippine stages

Cousins Joseph and Jasper Barros mentioned that when they heard they would be having a concert in the Philippines, they were brimming with immense excitement. Surprisingly, they confessed that this will be their very first visit to their homeland, so for them, gracing this stage goes beyond simply delighting their devoted Filipino audience. For the two Filipinos, it’s about making their parents proud, too.

When it comes to the other members, they confidently expressed that despite the fact they lack Filipino heritage, deep down, they possess a strong connection to the Filipino spirit. “Even though we don’t look like a Filipino, on the inside, we are,” Isaac added. The band also elaborated that they’ve always had an undeniable bond with the Philippines, which boasts one of their most passionate fan bases. Thus, as per their own sentiments, last night’s performance felt like a momentous occasion that had been eagerly anticipated for quite some time.

The Peach Tree Rascals came to the Philippines anticipating uproarious cheers and plenty of opportunities for singing and dancing. What transpired last night is proof that the band’s expectations were far exceeded. As the night came to a close, the band thanked their Filipino fans for making it to the final leg of their Asian tour, uttering the words, “Thank you for finishing it with us.”
