The actress transforms into the trending well-loved doll, and we talked to her stylist Jan Raroque about how they did it
In a world where she has proven that she can be anything, multitalented showbiz name Barbie Forteza takes on the role of her namesake—the fashion doll making rounds today for the live adaptation film showing last July. As she celebrates another chapter in her life, it only feels right that the actress owns the list of characters that she has played since 2009. And what better way to do it than a Barbie-on-Barbie transformation?

In an exclusive interview with MEGA Entertainment, celebrity fashion stylist Jan Raroque takes us through the process of taking inspiration from not just the fashion doll, but also the actress’ favorite superstar, Taylor Swift!
It’s a pink party
To Jan, all the pieces of the concept fit perfectly with the actress’ birthday. More than the same name, the timing is also right around the relevance of Greta Gerwig’s movie. True to that homage to the fashion toy, the birthday girl donned a neon pink bandage dress with corseted lining highlighted by her chunky gold accessories. Keeping up with the doll dream, the whole look was finished off with a white bow and go-go boots for that vintage Versace vibe. The actress’ makeup artist, Toni Aviles, also applied the pink palette by using monochromatic cool pink tones.
But more than this planned coincidence, the iconic Mattel figure also embodied Barbie’s career journey. Talking about the actress, the stylist pointed out, “Personally, I think that Barbie Forteza is one of our celebrities that embodies the perfect Filipina Barbie [doll] energy.” And who wouldn’t agree? Both names are known to have played various roles that one would seem unthinkable in a lifetime. And with both figures standing up for the possibilities of what women can achieve, isn’t that really worth celebrating, too?
Into her new era
Fully embracing her Swiftie side, the actress also incorporated Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour style staple—the sequined ensemble. For the second layout, Jan sourced a rainbow disc dress from Bangkok and paired it with the London Rag pink thigh-high boots for a little Barbie twist. The two inspirations were married seamlessly through the disco set up by Rabbit Hole Creatives.
“[Barbie’s style] is somehow evolving lately because she is more open [to] experimenting with clothes and silhouettes,” the stylist noted of Barbie. Expressing his admiration furthermore, he said, “I admire how she transforms with every outfit we try on. She approaches them as if she is putting on a character that matches the energy of the look, and that is always amazing to witness.”
When it comes to the future of one of GMA’s finest stars, it’s certain that she’ll ace more parts and genres, and proudly list them under her belt. But surely, even with the attribution of her name to a famous icon, the best version of Barbie will always be herself.
