At the Skin Academy Launch, Cetaphil Talked Healthy Skin

The skincare brand launched the Skin Academy pop-up booth with a talk headed up by Dr. Gaile Robredo-Vitas and Agoo Bengzon

It’s fair to say that no one understands skin quite like Cetaphil. After all, the brand is renowned for its gentle cleansers and moisturizers, meticulously tailored for all skin types. On August 17, Cetaphil, in partnership with Watsons, celebrated its sixth year of the National Healthy Skin Mission by providing consumers with a comprehensive skin education. Ahead of the event, Abe Mationg, Cetaphil Philippines brand manager, said, “[This year], we’re upping our game and holding the first Skin Academy masterclass—[these] masterclasses will help both consumers and patients who need education.”

The program was hosted by content creator Patty Laurel-Filart, and featured the participation of board-certified dermatologist Dr. Gaile Robredo-Vitas and MEGA Beauty Director Agoo Bengzon who shared their skincare philosophies. Below, discover helpful insights to inform your own routine.

The dermatologist recommended knowing your skin type before trying skincare products

Know your skin type

With the plethora of skincare out there, it can take a little trial and error to find the right cleanser. Dr. Robredo-Vitas, however, shared useful information to speed up the process, “Your skin type affects how products will work on your skin.”

She explained that if your face feels squeaky clean after washing, it’s a clear indicator that you’re using the wrong type of cleanser—one that strips away natural lipids essential for protecting your skin barrier. Her advice? Opt for a moisturizing cleanser instead. “For all skin types,” the dermatologist said, “I always recommend a cleanser that’s gentle on the skin.”

Dr. Robredo-Vitas also debunked the myth that those with oily skin can skip moisturizing. Stressing the importance of hydration for every skin type, she stated, “Hydration measures your skin’s water content. Even if you have oily skin, you can still experience dehydration, [which manifests as] redness and irritation.”

For Bengzon, preventive skincare is always better than having to repair

A personalized route

Skincare isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. Rather, your routine should be tailored to address the specific needs and concerns of your skin. Bengzon underscored the importance of this, emphasizing that a product’s effectiveness can vary from one person’s skin to another, even if it works well for a friend.

Dr. Robredo-Vitas chimed in with valuable advice: “After you’ve tried all these products, listen to your skin.” Bengzon, ever the enthusiast, encouraged the audience to enjoy the journey, “Start young, have fun with [the process]; preventive [skincare] is always better than having to repair.” And in times of uncertainty, the skin specialist offered a cost-effective tip, “Consult a dermatologist. It’ll save you time, effort, and even money.”

Cetaphil prepared four interactive rooms, featuring the brand’s broad range of gentle products

After the talk, attendees had the opportunity to explore four interactive rooms. In the Hydration Room, they identified the perfect cleanser for their unique skin type and needs while scanning Cetaphil’s diverse range of cleansers. The Radiance Room featured dermatologist-led educational videos on healthy skincare practices. For first-time moms, the Protect Room offered guidance on ensuring a healthy start for children. Meanwhile, the Acne Masterclass Room delved deep into the root causes of acne and presented effective solutions for the common skin concern.
