Beauty queen Michelle Dee touched down in NAIA to the chants of awaiting fans and supporters—the cheers of whom only increased in vigor when they finally set their sights upon her at the homecoming set-up in Terminal 1. Though a queen without a crown, Michelle’s 72nd Miss Universe run was a well-loved and lauded one, especially after winning the fan vote, the Best National Costume award, the Voice for Change award, and the Spirit of Carnival award.

Michelle, too, is a history-maker. She is the first Filipina to win four consecutive awards in Miss Universe history. She is also the third Filipina to win the Best National Costume award, after Charlene Gonzales in 1994 and Gazini Ganados in 2019. These achievements, plus the Top 5 mix-up between the Philippine and Thailand delegates, are why fans across the world believe the Top 10 placer deserved a higher placement, if not the illustrious crown itself.

Nonetheless, Michelle handled the situation with grace, always calling for kindness and displaying gratitude. This message was repeated at her homecoming event, where she thanked the country’s continued support for her wins on stage. More exciting things are also coming up for the Top 10 placer as she answered questions about what’s next for her. “Crown or no crown, a lot of things are in the works,” Michelle teased, alluding to an upcoming project on-screen.

She also donned a golden South Sea pearl brooch and earrings from Jewelmer as an ode to the beauty of the Philippines.
