The Beauty Profile: Dolly De Leon Wants You to Know That True Beauty Comes From Within

In an exclusive MEGA interview, Dolly De Leon talks about her firsts, her best milestones, and her renewed perspective on what beauty truly means

Dolly De Leon is off to bigger and better things — that’s for sure. But there is something quite special about her first-ever role that permanently occupies a place in her heart. “The very first role I ever had was in Shake, Rattle, and Roll 3, the unding episode,” she reminisced. “Sobrang classic ‘nun talaga!  I played one of the dormmates of Ai Ai De Las Alas, tapos tino-torment namin yung character ni Manilyn Reynes. Wala akong lines dun! Pero hindi ko siya makakalimutan kasi dinirect ni Peque Gallaga, kaya sobrang big-deal niya sa’akin.”

But that is not the only core memory that transformed her life. “I think that the very first time I realized I love acting was when I was in school when we’re doing a skit,” she shared. “Pina-arte kami ng teacher na yung eksena namamatay yung nanay. So, nung ginawa namin yun naging highly emotional ako in the middle of the scene kasi nga namatay siya eh, and it felt so liberating, it felt so good na real tears started coming out. And I said—wow, ganun pala ang umarte, ang sarap.”

The Beauty Profile focuses on unique definitions of beauty and the everyday routines of inspiring personalities. Many know the actor from her remarkable roles as Abigail from Ruben Östlund’s Triangle of Sadness or Molly Suzana from Petersen Vargas’ A Very Good Girl. But as the camera stops rolling, Dolly de Leon is simply Dolly de Leon. “I am a very simple person,” she expressed. “I love just hanging out with my family, my kids, and my friends—sometimes, talking about work or scripts. I love watching shows and plays kaya favorite cities ko yung London at Chicago kasi ang daming mga shows dun. It’s really more of that.”

On her beauty philosophy

It’s no secret that there are a lot of things to admire about the actor. But beyond her stellar performances and her global recognitions, it’s her overall attitude, refreshing mindset, and beauty philosophy that make her a true standout. “For me, beauty is what comes inside. It’s who you are inside. How you feel inside you—it’s your disposition and then it just comes out. From there you just embellish it by taking care of your skin, putting on makeup and wearing nice clothes. But that’s just all the facade. If you don’t feel beautiful or if you’re not beautiful inside, no matter how much you put on your face, it’s not gonna come out.”

The actor also admitted that the industry influenced a positive shift in her beauty perspective “It has changed a lot,” she answered. “Dati jeans, shirt, sneakers kind of person lang ako pero now, because I have to face people I still am Dolly—I can still be myself and add a little flavor of fun and something that will identify with me. I’m not compromising my personality or pagkatao. I’m still there. Only I add some other things that enhance who I am.”

On her relationship with beauty

So, when does the actor feel the most beautiful and confident? “I feel the most beautiful when I’m allowed to be myself and I don’t hide behind an image,” she answered. “Same goes with moments that make me feel confident—that’s it. When I have to pretend to be someone I’m not or talk a certain way, that’s where I become really insecure. So when I’m just being myself, dun ako pinaka confident.”

The empowering energy was carried over as she named personalities that she finds beautiful and inspirational. “Kath. I find Kath really beautiful.” she enthusiastically said. “ And she’s not just beautiful on the outside, she’s also beautiful on the inside, she’s a beautiful human being.” De Leon continues, “Alam mo, I also find Apo Whang-od really beautiful. And lastly, Lance Reblando! She’s an actress from the theater. She’s making her mark now in the film scene, she’s very talented, a beautiful human being and a lovely person.”

On her beauty routine

“Oh my god! Grabe yung routine ko ang dami kong nilalagay sa face ko.” the actor enthusiastically answered when asked about her beauty rituals. “The first thing I do is to remove my makeup then I put on a toner. Once set, I apply Niacinamide and Matrixyl. A part of my non-negotiables are also my serum, essence, moisturizer—all of which I do every night and morning with sunscreen.”
