Explore the versatility of these Pre-Fall 2024 ensembles through the collections of brands like Moschino, Diesel, and Balenciaga that go beyond seasons
Fashion unfolds in two major seasons: Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter. However, the runway experiences two additional moments of expansive creative transformation. Beyond couture, these seasons provide a platform for designers and their brands to showcase their capabilities. These transitional seasons are Resort and Pre-Fall, occurring before Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter, respectively. In the perpetual summer of the Philippines, Pre-Fall fortunately avoids delving too deeply into winter aesthetics. In fact, they’re more year-long aesthetic.

Moschino
Moschino maintains its signature blend of fun, pop culture, and a light-hearted approach to fashion. Its latest collection, named Same Old Chic, humorously revisits the brand’s iconic moments. It features elements like a teddy bear-trimmed coat and creative barcode patterns on various garments. Additionally, the collection prominently displays adaptable wardrobe staples, such as a stylish burgundy leather blouson jacket, tan overcoats, and contemporary tailored suits. It further introduces a sweatsuit set that reads, “You Can’t Be Serious.” Thankfully, they never are.
Diesel
Diesel’s ascent to high fashion continues with this collection. Focused on denim as the raw foundation, creative director Glenn Martens transforms this traditional material into unexpected pieces. Through various layering techniques, from skirts meld with jeans, jackets united with skirts, to bonded denim, it creates a technical Canadian tuxedo effect. The denim undergoes treatments, cut and layered and conjoined, creating a leathery appearance. Non-denim garments like windbreakers and puffers are incorporated. Who knew you could do so much to denim? Fortunately, Diesel did.
Etro
Exploring the brand’s archives, creative director Marco De Vincenz navigates the masculine blueprints of Etro’s origins and its romantic bohemian legacy, blending seemingly contrasting elements with the brand’s inherent inventiveness for evocative and immersive detailing. The iconic boteh undergoes a compelling transformation—infused with florals, the boteh enriches the dynamic and straightforward outlines, presenting a novel interpretation of the boho aesthetic that mirrors De Vincenzo’s perspective. Etro’s embrace of masculinity manifests in grandiose renditions of the quintessential looks: soft, flouncy, totally boho.
Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini
Captivated by the allure of enigmatic femininity, creative director Lorenzo Serafini stays devoted to the contemporary woman’s craving for simplicity and clarity in design. Serafini’s devotion to comfort manifests in textures that cascade from solid tones to ethereal sheers. The looks dance with grace, adorned with decorative elements that show flamboyance, allowing for a fluid motion that carries an understated yet strong effect. Yes, for Philosophy‘s collection, each piece commands attention with sensuality—coats exude a velvet touch, ruched dresses line up by the skin, tight-fitting dresses make room for breathing. It’s the 90s in the vein of an erotic drama.
Balenciaga
Balenciaga’s show in Los Angeles captures the surreal allure of the city as creative director Demna Gvasalia expresses his deep connection to LA’s cultural influence in his fashion references. The gothic-clad guests create a striking contrast against the backdrop of Windsor Boulevard, with the iconic Hollywood sign in the distance. The collection embraces a SoCal vibe, featuring Y2K-inspired velour jumpsuits and statement shearling boots. It competes with this aesthetic with models carrying smoothies and coffee cups, grocery and gym bags; When you reference LA, you can never miss wellness culture. While these were daytime aesthetics, the collection shifted into the night—and it was glamorous. It wasn’t just LA; it was Hollywood.
The Philippines is where summer refuses to clock out, and these Pre-Fall collections strut in like the stylish co-stars of an everlasting heat wave—with a pool on the side, of course. Trends might have seasons, but style is a year-round blockbuster on these tropical streets.
