In a YouTube skin health discussion, dermatologist Dr. Coreen Copuyoc Sampedro and Y.O.U Beauty’s Product Manager Jennika Casin talked about skin health, ingredients that benefit the skin, and products to look out for
As Filipinos, our lifestyles can range from being on-the-go in the city, out under the sun, to days on end in front of our computer screens. While there’s nothing wrong with that, our lifestyles can greatly affect our skin and overall health, which may cost us our confidence and how we live our lives.
Achieving clear and healthy skin is never impossible, and in getting that coveted glowing skin, we need to be in tune with what our skin needs. In another MEGA and Y.O.U Beauty YouTube video collaboration, board-certified dermatologist Dr. Coreen Copuyoc Sampedro and Y.O.U Beauty’s Product Manager Jennika Casin discussed skin health, the ingredients that benefit the skin, and skincare product recommendations to help develop that healthy, glowing skin.
Skin health 101
We’ve most likely heard many beauty and health influencers and experts tout their best skin care products, but their recommendations might leave us wondering if they truly fit our skin type.
It’s easy to suggest, but before we take all these products to our shelves, we must understand skin health and the ingredients we need to help improve it. Jennika mentioned, “If you’ve ever been told that you look like a certain age, chances are that your skin condition has influenced that comment.”
Dr. Coreen agreed because “our skin visibly changes depending on the activities that we do, the environment that we’re in, and most especially, the products that we use on it.” We should look for certain ingredients that greatly benefit our specific skin needs.
Skin caring ingredients
Look out for the benefit of Bakuchiol as Jennika shared that it’s one of the skincare ingredients for keeps. “It is a plant-based extract derived from the seeds of the Babchi Plant, a powerful skin healing herb used in traditional medicine,” she said. “It stimulates collagen production to improve skin elasticity, promoting skin renewal for a more even skin tone and reducing fine lines and acne.”
In our country, being under immense heat and sun exposure is inevitable. “We have to remind ourselves of skin protection before starting our daily activities,” Dr. Coreen added.
Jennika has the skincare ingredient for this: Sakura extract with antioxidant properties that help fight UV damage by protecting the skin’s natural barrier while reducing skin redness and sensitivity. Lastly, she brought up SymWhite 377, which is “potent in reducing melanin production to ensure your radiance is up, and dark spots go down.”
Building a skincare regimen
Now that we’ve established just how vital skin health and skincare ingredients are, it’s time to add the must-have products for that healthy, beautiful skin. Here are the top six recommended hero products to add to our skincare essentials:
- Cleanser
As Dr. Coreen said, “How can you deeply care for your skin when it’s covered in excess oils, dirt from your environment, and other impurities? Before anything else, start with a good cleanser.”
Jennika recommended Y.O.U Beauty’s Radiance Glow Purifying Facial Foam to keep our skin clean, healthy, and glowing with 0% alcohol, zero synthetic fragrance, and zero harm to our sensitive skin. It is also formulated with Mizu Glow technology boosted by Japanese Sakura extract.
- Moisturizer
Moisturizers not only maintain our skin’s natural hydration, but they can also be packed with bonus ingredients that can make your skin brighter and more radiant. For this one, there’s Y.O.U Deep Moisturizing Cream from the Radiance Up! Series.
“It is a gel-textured moisturizer boosted with SymWhite 377 and Ceramide 1-3-6 to target skin dullness and effectively lock in moisture to strengthen your skin barrier for a healthy radiance,” shared Jennika.
- Sun Protection
Something we don’t want to skip out on is sun protection. “Sunscreen is a year-round protection,” Dr. Coreen reiterated, and Jennika agreed, which is why Y.O.U Beauty came out with a sunscreen that is also suited for the Philippine weather.
“The Sunbrella Intensive Care Aqua Sunscreen is lightweight with its refreshing watery texture,” Jennika explained. “It offers eight layers of protection from UVA, UVB, blue light, and pollution. It also contains the SymWhite 377 and Ceramides for brighter and healthier skin over time.”
- Serum for Skin Repair
Our skin is our natural protective shield against bacteria, dust, and other external factors, so as Dr. Coreen said, “We should allow it to recover and repair.”
For some TLC, Jennika suggested Y.O.U Beauty’s Intensive Serum from their newest Golden Age series. It boosts collagen production with Bakuchiol, repairs skin with 3X Ceramides, and improves skin health and radiance with 4X antioxidants and 99.8% pure Niacinamide.
- Serum to Maintain Glow
Consistency is the key to a healthy, glowing skin. To fully maintain our current glow after doing a complete skincare routine, Jennika introduced the Radiance Glow Illuminating Serum, which is enriched with Bisabolol, a significant component derived from Chamomile to help soothe skin redness.
“This serum is formulated with C-three Complex, Niacinamide, and Sakura extract that helps repair the skin barrier and minimize pore appearance for a healthy, glowing complexion,” Jennika detailed.
- Essence
“Our current routine can already make your skin feel really good,” said Dr. Coreen. “But we don’t want to be just good; we want to be at its best even in the future.”
One of the most overlooked steps in skincare is adding an essence to our regimen. This water-based product is a good source of hydration to improve our skin barrier, and Y.O.U Beauty has the product for it: the 2-in-1 Essence as part of the Golden Age series. Its lightweight product focuses on deeply hydrating the skin and improving absorption of skin care.
As Dr. Coreen and Jennika wrapped up their talk, the latter reminded the audience: “With consistency, discipline, and love for your skin, an effective skincare routine can help you become the best version of you.”
