Happy Skin’s Chief Brand Officer Rissa Maninquil Trillo announces her departure from the beloved homegrown brand.
Just today, Rissa Mananquil Trillo, co-founder of Happy Skin has announced her departure from the brand. Serving as the beloved Happy Skin’s Chief Brand Officer since the brand’s inception, Trillo has definitely made a mark—not only with Happy Skin, but with the country’s beauty industry.
Sharing the news, she says, “This is a decision I thought long and hard about. It takes a lot of strength to leave something I poured so much of my life into.” She adds, “Shared values are so important. Doing a good job has always meant so much to me—not just a good job, but doing it with integrity.” She also shared that before making her decision, she asked for advice from some business leaders in the country. “It was honestly a difficult decision,” she said. “The final step I took was to seek the advice of some of the country’s respected business leaders. Turning to them proved to me that no matter what generation you are from, right is right and wrong is wrong.”
As she says goodbye to something close to her heart, she takes a look back on the brand’s beginnings. After working as a model and beauty columnist, Rissa Maninquil Trillo knew that there was a need for skin-caring makeup for Filipinas. Thus, the birth of Happy Skin—the first homegrown brand that broke into the local market dominated by foreign brands. Under her leadership, Happy Skin has won over 40 beauty awards. Apart from that, the brand has also had collaborations with global brands such as Disney, Sanrio, and Havaianas. Filipino stars such as Kris Aquino, Liz Uy, KC Concepcion, Heart Evangelista, and Kathryn Bernardo has also worked with Happy Skin.
An inspiration to all women and entrepreneurs, Rissa Maninquil Trillo has won awards such as Ernst & Young’s Woman Entrepreneur of the Year in 2017, and GoNegosyo’s Inspiring Filipino Entrepreneur in 2018. She has also wrote her first book, “Read My Lips: What It Takes To Build A World-Class Homegrown Brand” in 2019.
“When I look back at my goals when Happy Skin started, I’ve ticked off everything on my list,” she shares. “But it’s time we all made better choices. Success to me is being able to check all the boxes in my list, but also knowing when to walk away.” She adds, “I just finished one beautiful chapter. Now I’m excited to write a new one. From happy skin—to now happy heart and happy mind.”
