Back in Business: Seven Revenge Travel Destinations For 2023

A sense of normality only continues to be established. And with that is a window to compensate for lost time and opportunities

By the second half of 2022, one thing was clear—the new normal was well on its way. Before we knew it, an updated iteration of normal was upon us. All while acknowledging reality, public spaces were getting crowded again and adjustments were down to a minimum. If all goes well, 2023 is looking to be the first full year wherein we can finally make up for what the pandemic has taken from us—the first full year of normal.

For travel, borders have started to open up since then, and highly meticulous processes are no longer in place as of writing. With the next year fast approaching, we list down seven destinations around the world and why you should consider them for your 2023 travel plans.

Tokyo, Japan

Japan is the birthplace of some pop culture staples such as anime, electronics, and cars—most of which still resonate with the younger generation.

For this, Tokyo contains the Akihabara district, which is considered their pop culture center. It’s a shopping district for all things anime, manga, and toys or electronics, particularly consoles. Furthermore, there are also arcades and displays of iconic characters from past works within the district.

While Daikoku in Yokohama is the destination for car enthusiasts, the city still contains tuning shops and museums you can visit. Such examples include Toyota’s Mega Web and the History Garage for museums. As for tuning shops, there are Honda-catered ones like Spoon and FEEL’s Honda Twincam.

St. Moritz, Switzerland

St. Moritz is an Alpine resort town in Switzerland. It has hosted the Winter Olympics twice and is considered to be the birthplace of both winter sports and tourism. This is a perfect destination for enthusiasts of these two, considering its history and relevance for these activities.

New York, USA

A basic but essential destination is New York City. For those who enjoy traversing urban jungles, this is one that offers a premier experience complemented with things such as diverse food and cultural intersections. There is also the Theater District for your Broadway fix, or for sports fans, the many franchises that call the area their home.

Florence, Italy

It may lack diversity in eras of art, but Florence is the birthplace of Renaissance art. It is still a place to immerse oneself in art and history through the city’s overall architecture and tourist spots, particularly its art galleries.

While there, you can visit the Uffizi Gallery, which displays fundamental Renaissance art from maestros like da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael, coupled with Greek and Roman sculptures. There is also the Accademia Gallery for Michaelangelo’s sculptures, including David, and other Florentine works of art.

La Fortuna, Costa Rica

La Fortuna is considered to be the country’s adventure capital. While here, one can engage in activities such as canyoning around the Arenal Volcano, hiking to the La Fortuna Waterfall, or zip lining around the rich flora and fauna. Should you wish to unwind, there are also natural hot springs such as one in Tabacon Thermal Resort and Spa. All in all, it’s an adventure-friendly destination that’s backed up by immersion in the area’s wildlife.

Seyðisfjörður, Iceland

Being a small nation, Iceland also has a small population and low crime rates that offer the prospect of solitude. Already an introvert-friendly country, they have Seyðisfjörður, a small fishing town with a population of 700 aside from being an Icelandic culture hub.

Within the town are natural views provided by the mountains that surround them, as well as the lagoon in the area. Outdoor activities such as biking, skiing, and wildlife viewing are also available. To top things off, it’s also an ideal spot for viewing the Northern Lights at night.

Ballindalloch, Scotland

Scotland is considered to be the birthplace of whisky, and one known area for that is Ballindalloch with its four total distilleries. Here, one can visit the popular Glenlivet distillery, one of the biggest whisky distilleries in the world and a good starting option for those new to the said spirit. Outside of Glenlivet are local distilleries such as Cragganmore and one named after the town itself.

As a bonus, Ballindalloch houses a castle, plus ski and hiking options aside from whisky exploration opportunities.
