David’s portrayal of River Barkley in The Politician brought him much attention in 2019. After that, he had a starring role in another Murphy Netflix series, the period drama Hollywood, for which he also served as an executive producer. Before this, his breakout role was in the political thriller Affairs of State, in which he played Michael Lawson. Later that year, he appeared on episodes of hit series like House of Cards, Elementary, and Instinct. He also had roles in A24’s Pearl, directed by Ti West, and Netflix’s Look Both Ways, directed by Wanuri Kahiu.

Beyond the highly anticipated release of Superman: Legacy, Corenswet has also been cast in the 2024 feature Twisters, further establishing himself as one of the most popular actors of his generation.

He started in theater

David’s acting experience began on stage before he was exposed to TV shows. At the young age of nine, he landed his first acting part in the Arden Theatre Company’s staging of Arthur Miller’s All My Sons. After that, he kept performing in plays in Philadelphia. Then, David traveled to New York to study drama at Juilliard and eventually earned a degree in the field in 2016.

He is taking flying lessons

The actor is also taking flying lessons, adding to his stellar resume. David revealed in a 2020 interview that he had started learning to fly a plane while taking care of his father, who had already passed away last year from cancer.

He was born into a family of creatives

David comes from a long line of exceptionally creative people. Before becoming a lawyer, his father, John Corenswet, worked as a stage manager in New York City. On the other hand, his maternal grandfather, Edward Packard, wrote more than 50 volumes in the classic Choose Your Own Adventure series.

He’s got his own sketch comedy show

There’s more to David than meets the eye when he’s on camera. When he first graduated from college, he created, developed, and starred in the sketch comedy series Moe & Jerryweather, which has episodes available on YouTube.

He is aware of the comparison to Henry Cavill

The internet went wild in 2019 after David made his debut on The Politician due to the many similarities between him and Henry Cavill, who played Superman at the time. The actor mentioned this in an interview, saying that he knew about it long before social media brought it to light and that it inspired him to want to play Superman himself. He liked what Henry Cavill did with the role, but he expressed his desire to see a more vibrant interpretation of Superman. “I would love to see somebody do a really upbeat throwback. I love Henry Cavill’s dark and gritty take. I would love to see the next one be very bright and optimistic,” David said. It was hilarious and interesting at the same time because now, it sounded like he was giving his future self a piece of advice.

He always wanted to be Superman

Superman has always been a favorite of David’s. “Superman is an amazing character, a classic American character,” he shared in one of his interviews in 2019. “He’s been done right, and he’s been done wrong. It’s time for another good one,” he added.

When asked by the press in 2019 if he thought he had a shot at the part, given that he recognizes his resemblance to Henry Cavill, David said, “I think that’s the way to go. But it has come to my attention. It actually came to my attention before the internet got a hold of me, and my sort of pie-in-the-sky ambition is definitely to play Superman.” Indeed, he did make that manifestation.
