In an exclusive interview with MEGA, the makeup artist to the stars bares it all on his signature bridal glam and how he does it
It is said that a woman looks and feels her most beautiful on her wedding day, so brides-to-be are racing to book the best of the best to make it happen. At the top of that list? It’s Jelly Eugenio. Apart from his eye-catching makeup techniques with the likes of Nadine Lustre, Andrea Brillantes, and more recently Julia Barretto, the makeup artist has a signature specialty in his beauty expertise—the wedding glam. While the creative generously shares his makeup tips and tricks on TikTok, Jelly also had a one-on-one with MEGA on all things bridal beauty.
Jelly Does Not Hold Back
One would think that a star-studded portfolio and a high social media following are what cement your name in the industry. Although partially true, renowned makeup artist and influencer Jelly Eugenio proves that mastering the art of connecting with your clients is just as big a part.
“If you book me, I am always going to give you 100 percent,” shares Jelly. According to the creative, he meets with his clients beforehand to align on their vision. But what’s truly striking is that brides now book him on the spot—skipping trials entirely—as they trust his expertise in bringing his signature bridal glam to life.
The Bride’s Glam Moment
When asked to detail how bridal makeup should look like, Jelly was quick to share that such a look is personal—one that cannot be bound by rules. However, he highlights the importance of authenticity and individuality in his work. “Bridal makeup should always be a representation of the bride’s character,” explains Jelly.
He recalls a recent experience with a rather shy bride who gave him free rein with her makeup—a “very dangerous answer,” as he puts it. When she kept changing her mind, he discovered that she actually wanted a subtle, barely-there look. In true competitive spirit, Jelly didn’t hesitate to re-do her makeup to her preference, which proved his dedication to making every client feel like herself.
“The bride [needs someone] who can understand her, and that is what you have to be as a makeup artist,” he shares. Despite its divergence from the conventional Jelly Eugenio bride, this ended up being his favorite and most memorable bridal look.
Jelly’s Bridal Glam Favorites
Jelly’s bridal glam philosophy is simple: fresh, youthful, and timeless.
Nayoung Kim
Jelly draws inspiration from K-Beauty, which is quite frankly a refreshing approach to bridal beauty. He uses subtle hues and focuses on creating a radiant finish, enhancing the natural beauty of his brides rather than altering them.
Another favorite of his is the fresh bridal glam he created for South Korean model Nayoung Kim—a look that says it all.
Annelieke Dompeling-White
Jelly’s beach bridal glam for Annelieke Dompeling-White has also taken the internet by storm. The bride’s radiant, au naturel beauty was showcased in his TikTok video, amassing nearly 4 million views. This look contains the elements of Jelly’s signature style: glowy skin, vibrant eyes, and a perfect shimmer.
It’s difficult to miss the glow-from-within aspect that is present in all his clients. But to him, it’s the play on contrast that sets his work apart. “If you ask me to do a really beautiful eye, the skin would be very minimal, you know? I have to pull back and focus on one thing,” he dissects. He also believes that bridal makeup should be close to how you look on a daily basis, “but the perfected version of that.”
The Bridal Artist Must-Haves
Jelly unveils the holy grail products that never leave his bridal bag; surprisingly, they go beyond mere makeup.
Cryo-freeze sticks
The first is a pair of cryo-freeze sticks to prep his clients’ skin. Even when going to destination weddings, he brings a cooler along to ensure that these decongesting and depuffing tools stay cold throughout the day. He also mentions bringing a candle to his station to set the mood, proving that with him, you’re not just booking glam but an entire experience, too.
Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate Contour Duo
Jelly tends to employ his makeup rotation every two months or so. But, as of writing, he swears by the Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate Contour Duo, a two-in-one product that illuminates and sculpts the face. He particularly likes using the highlighter part to give the illusion of fresher skin.
Vice Cosmetics x Jelly Filter Palettes
Another must-have in his kit is the Pretty Sweet Filter Palette from the Vice Cosmetics x Jelly collaboration. “[These are] actually a representation of my actual retouch kit,” Jelly shares. His Secret Formula? Not Having One
If you think that the above are what compose the “secret formula” behind Jelly’s creations, you may have to rethink as there might not be one at all. During the interview, Jelly mentioned that he, himself, cannot put into words how he creates these looks. “It’s hard to explain for me because that’s how my brain works and that’s how I get into these jobs,” he admits. “Nobody can explain my brain and I can’t even put it into words.”
