The designer redefines what bridal dresses can look like in an upcycled capsule collection with Vestido
Tradition may walk hand-in-hand with weddings, but Sassa Jimenez is shaking things up by holding hands with modernity and sustainability. With her latest bridal capsule collection with Vestido, Something Borrowed, she invites modern brides to embrace the unexpected: something old. For this otherwise unconventional collection, especially for brides to completely don for weddings, the designer poses this challenge—why settle for the ordinary on a day that’s anything but?

Rewriting the Rules
When asked what inspired this collection, Jimenez revealed a love story of her own: a passion for pushing boundaries while staying true to what brides hold dear. “After several years of working in bridal, I noticed that my clients were eager to explore new styles for their weddings but were hesitant to experiment with their personal style,” she shares.
“Bridal style has always leaned toward a more classic or conventional approach, but brides these days are confident and want to make a statement, embracing bolder choices in their wedding wardrobe,” Jimenez says.
When Creative Minds Marry Sustainability
Working with Vestido’s Pam Quinones, Maica Tady, and Cindy Go Bayot was like finding the perfect wedding planners—they knew exactly what the bride needed, even before she did. “Vestido has been an incredible partner in this journey because they brought invaluable insights about their clients that helped me create a truly inclusive collection,” she shares. “They never held me back in terms of design, and offered a fresh perspective that enhanced my vision for the modern bride.”
Yet Something Borrowed isn’t just about the aesthetics of every day, but about the substance found within it. Every piece in this collection is 100% upcycled—a marriage of sustainability and style that reflects a commitment to circular fashion. “Our studio is always looking for creative ways to repurpose deadstock fabric,” Jimenez explains.
“We all agreed that to make this collection truly unique and meaningful—it had to be 100% upcycled.” Vestido’s philosophy of reimagining potential aligned with its desire to create something fresh out of the old.
Old Flames, New Ideas
Of course, as with any love affair, there were challenges. “The biggest one for me was getting out of my comfort zone,” Jimenez admits. “Some of these fabrics have been archived in my studio for years.”
It was like rekindling an old flame—familiar, yet requiring a new approach. Reworking these materials pushed them to innovate, to see them in a new light.
The designer lights up as she describes one of her favorite pieces—a high-neck halter dress made from pajama fabric. It’s not your typical bridal material, but there’s a flow and lightness to it that’s perfect for the bride who wants to feel as comfortable as she is beautiful.
Daring to Be Different
This collection is not for the faint of heart, but one who wears it on her sleeve, or tulle. It’s for the bride who isn’t afraid to make a statement, who’s ready to turn heads and break rules. “The contemporary bride is a total vibe—she’s bold and ready to break all the rules.”
“She’s all about experimenting with odd shapes, sparkly material, and doesn’t shy away from showing some skin,” the designer asserts confidendently, all about making her big day as unique as she is.
As for those considering walking down the aisle in something less traditional, Jimenez’s advice is simple yet profound: “Take your time and choose what makes you feel most confident. Have fun with the process and pick something you truly want to wear, rather than what you think is expected of you. Consider incorporating circular fashion into your wedding wardrobe—there’s something incredibly romantic about sharing parts of your special day with a larger community.”
A Fresh Spark
Through designing Something Borrowed, Jimenez has rekindled her own creative spark. “I’ve learned that approaching design with a childlike vigor has been invaluable; it keeps my creative process exciting.”
And as for the future? Let’s just say that if this collection is any indication, we’re in for something old to be made new again. After all, the designer isn’t just designing dresses; she’s creating timeless love stories. Sassa Jimenez is proving that true style—and true love—is all about embracing what was, what is, and what could be.
