Here’s Why Bungee Fitness Works

We explain everything you need to know about the new workout craze that has reached the Philippines

If you’re the type of person to consume content related to fitness and wellness on social media, then you may have encountered the TikToks of women jumping and flying around in studios as a form of exercise. In these videos, women are seen performing typical exercises like lunges and squats while wearing harnesses and cords, which allow them to leap into the air to perform aerial arts. What you’ve been seeing is a relatively new workout called bungee fitness—and it is exactly what the name suggests.

Bungee fitness is considered a low-impact workout because the cord pulls on your weight and lets you make softer landings. Despite it being low-impact, this type of exercise can just as well get you to sweat, raise your heart rate, and lose calories. In a single high-intensity bungee fitness session, you stand to lose a minimum of 1,000 calories.

Not only are bungee fitness workouts helpful in weight loss, but you also get to do strength training with ease. Because of how much weight is lifted off you, this workout would be ideal for beginners and athletes in recovery as the aerial elements of this exercise protect your vulnerable joints and put less pressure on your feet.

However, it is important to note that this workout comes with its own unique dangers—which can be mitigated under proper guidance. These dangers are related to the root of the exercise: bungee jumping. If you’re not careful, you could harm your spine, which is why bungee fitness is typically done in classes with instructors present.

When everything is done correctly, you can simply enjoy a new, low-impact workout. With the bungee cord carrying most of your weight, you can even perform all the exercises you may not have been able to do before, such as push-ups.
